Al-rumûl: forms-of-life and dwelling
In 1955, a trial took place in Beirut whose memories and oblivions continue to vibrate. The name assigned to it was Al-rumûl, the Sands, after the area involved in property quarrels, but most of all confronting two different ways of intending a possible habitation of the lands. On the one hand, private property (the conformation of a striated space), on the other, the mouchaa (indivisible lands, the possibilities of a smooth space). The memories and the call to a present unfold in a constellation of images, nomadic distribution resonating with the historical and territorial possibilities of the place itself. Writing for notes / fore-text, borrowed by literature, reveals itself as the possibility for the story to take shape in images-in-movement. A new interpretation of the story-board as filmic annotations will be stretched to the point of ad-figuring an antE-film.
Taking distance from the biographical, as well as the documental and the journal (diary), how does the making of an antE-film relates with the taking place and shape of a life? Which are the forces at play between the possible making of a film, the articulation of thinking and the images emerging from the historical and political field of The Sands?
How does the idea of a nomadic distribution can operate on the elaboration of images-in-movement? How can a process of writing a film in annotation affect the sequential structuring of images-in-movement? Does the antE-film converge in the filmic or will it demand to remain announced, as it can be in the shape of a story-board?
